Cables and Wires

Overhead Cables to Clutter a Skyline

Sagging overhead wires that make a clean street, a rendered city or a replaced sky look lived in. String them between poles and rooftops for crowded city blocks, alleys and run-down neighborhoods. Hang them off the street lights in signs, or in front of new buildings.

Which size keeps thin wires clean?

Grab a size above your frame and shrink it to fit. The PNGs go up to 8K, and thin lines enlarged from a small file turn soft and stair-stepped.

How to add overhead wires

Start and end every wire on something solid: a pole, a roof edge, a wall bracket, or just outside the frame.
Keep the sag consistent. Wires on the same span droop together, and longer spans droop more.
Thin lines shimmer when a still image moves. Soften them very slightly, and in After Effects turn on the layer's Motion Blur switch in the timeline once they're tracked.
Lay a tangle of wires over a fresh sky from skies to break up a backdrop that looks too clean.
